This is an important Sign that began long ago and continues spread faster as time goes on.
In this, the Last Dispensation which began on 6 April 1830, all things began to come together, looking forward to the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.
The Prophet Joseph Smith was instructed, by Revelation, to start building Temples.
The first Temple in 2000 years was built in Kirtland, Ohio. At that dedication time, the Lord Himself appeared to His chosen prophet, the Prophet Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery, the second Apostle of the church, in the Temple and Accepted it as HIS HOUSE. Then other visitations came at that time, Moses, Elias, but then, Elijah appeared.
DOCTRINE and COVENANTS 110: 13 - 14
The date was April 3, 1836. He came to deliver the KEYS to Turning the Hearts of the Fathers to the children and the Hearts of the Children to the fathers. Elijah was fulfilling the prophesy of Malachi.
If you look at the evidence on the beginnings of Genealogical Societies being formed and Genealogical Research beginning to take off, it will be very close to the time of Elijah coming to the Temple and giving those KEYS.
You will find that from about that time, the Spirit of Elijah began to effect many people in the church and out of it. Their hearts were turning back to their Fathers or Ancestors, and wanted to know more about them.
It was not just a FAD of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
It has affected the whole world. There are Genealogical Societies all over the world coming together and gathering records.
They all have the same Spirit of Research.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has the Largest and most famous Genealogical Library in the World, located in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The church has hundreds of researchers traveling around the world, going into main depositories of records, down to small, out of the way churches and monasteries, photographing old, and very old records with tripods and cameras. They turn each page and photograph each of them.
Then they sent them to be processed in Salt Lake City, Utah, where the original films are copied and then are sent to specially designed Record Mountain Vaults to be kept.
The copy is sent to the Genealogical Library and copies sent to other places, to be used by researchers.
Right now, ALL of these records are being digitized onto computers and eventually will be made available ON YOUR COMPUTER, FROM HOME.
